Remembering the 2025 Railroaders

After three seasons with a combined 15 wins, the 2024-25 Railroader went 19-7

New coach Logan Traylor took over the program after three straight seasons with a 5-18 record. The 2024-2025 Garrett team won 19 games, breaking records and long droughts in the meantime. The 19 wins tied the 2004 team as the most wins for a Railroader boys basketball team this century. It was Garrett's first double digit win season since 2014-2015 and the first winning record since 2013-2014.

For Traylor alone, his season was landmark as a coach. He had the most wins by a new coach in Northeast Indiana (of 21 programs boys/girls), tied for the most wins in Indiana by a program with a new coach (of 78) and had the most wins in the state by a first time boys head coach.

The season tied for the best turnaround in Garrett history (+14 games) while tying for the 3rd best turnaround for boys basketball in Indiana in the 2024-25 season. Along the way, Garrett ended the state’s 7th (Angola - 15 games) and 9th (Eastside - 14 games) longest losing streaks.

One of the marquee wins was the first win at DeKalb since 1990. The win helped complete a season sweep of both DeKalb County (3-0) and Noble County (4-0). The 68-54 win over the Barons on February 21st was led by a big three point shooting effort with 12 made three pointers, led by 5 from senior Parker Reed and 4 from sophomore Isaiah King.

Garrett completed the first undefeated home regular season since 1972, second time ever in Paul Bateman Gymnasium. Important wins in that included December 3's home opener against a favored Woodlan team, February 14's throwback night against Eastside where the program honored the 1984 team and February 21st's Senior Night to complete the unbeaten home regular season.

While finishing third in the conference, Garrett had the most total regular season wins of any NECC boys team during the 2024-2024 season. They advanced to the NECC Tournament finals in January before losing at Westview to the host Warriors. Along the run of the tournament, Garrett beat Angola, West Noble and Central Noble over four days to reach the NECC Tournament finals. The win over Angola, in overtime, in the opening

round of the NECC Tournament was named the NECC boys basketball Game of the Year by Outside the Huddle. The team also played in the finals of the Max Platt Tournament at East Noble in December, first beating the host Knights before falling to Class 4A top 10 ranked Anderson in the championship game.

In March, Garrett won their first ever Class 3A Sectional game in their third meeting of the season opposite Angola. It was also Garrett's first Sectional game win at all since 2009 as they were led by 14 each from Carter Coffman and Isaiah King and 11 points from Kohen Smith, all three being sophomores. The Railroaders fells in the Sectional semi finals against Leo.

Garrett earned state rankings/votes in both the USA Today Indiana Sports Network and Associated Press polls during the season. Sophomores Isaiah King and Carter Coffman were both named IBCA All-State Underclass Honorable Mention for the season. King, Coffman and Parker Reed all earned All-NECC First Team and Journal Gazette All-Northeast Indiana honors. King was named All-Area by Outside the Huddle and Coffman was named the OTH Breakout Player of the Year for the NECC.
